Yuvamitra...

Yuva Mitra (Youth Friends) is the voluntary organization, working with rural communities of Sinnar Taluka of Nashik district. Yuva Mitra was started in 1995 by a youth group in Sinnar who wanted to contribute to the process of social change. The organization initiates constructive activities based on the principles of people centered development Yuva Mitra believes in the people-centered approach of development where people are empowered to become agents of social change. Various programmes have been initiated over the years with community participation.

Our Vision

Yuva Mitra envisions a development process of the alienated sections of the Society, where People are at the core of its decisions making and action, beyond the model of Welfare schemes.

Work Area

Yuva Mitra mainly works in the Sinnar and Igatpuri talukas of Nashik district. Adverse consequences of imbalanced development are visible in many parts of the country. Sinnar block from Nashik district in Maharashtra is not an exception to this national phenomenon. Two industrial estates in Sinnar are recognized as the milestones of development of the block. While Igatpuri taluka is a predominantly tribal area which still has major issues of malnutrition, illiteracy and lack of developmental infrastructure. Though it is rich in natural resources the area has still has not been able to benefit from them. The fruits of development have not even reached the nearby villages, which are still deprived of basic amenities like drinking water and education. Sinnar, which is situated on Nashik-Shirdi high way and is close to rapidly developing Nashik city, has become a prime location for corporate sector and multinationals. State government has given approval for four Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in this block. It is claimed that the development projects would also benefit the local communities, however in reality they are going to impact local resources and livelihood avenues in a serious way.

Yuva Mitra is working with communities who are marginalized in the present development process. Yuva Mitra is directly working in about 86 villages in these blocks. Besides these we also reach out to many other villages through issue based activities and awareness programmes.
